Crochet Fairy Hat On A Wire Frame
To make the Crochet Fairy Hat you will need to make 4 x wire circles. I was lucky as I found a bangle in the perfect size and I only needed 3 x wire circles. Use Aluminium wire for the circles and attach the circles with 28 gauge copper wire.
To make Fairy hat you will need:
28 gauge copper wire.
1.25 mm crochet hook.
100 % acrylic green yarn. Lacey yarn in orange/white.
Crochet Fairy Hat on Wire Frame Instructions
Cut 4 pieces of aluminium wire, one shorter than the other. Form into a ring. Wrap 28 gauge copper wire around where the ends of the aluminium wire circle meet to secure the rings. Attach the 4 rings to each other with about 2 cm apart with 28 gauge copper wire. On the smallest ring, attach 2 x 15 cm string of aluminium wire. Twist the two strings of wire loosely together. See image below.
Begin wrapping yarn (not crocheting, just wrapping yarn around the wire) all around the wire. See image below.
Begin crochet sc in all the circles around the wire. Crochet 49 sc around large circle. 36 sc around 2nd largest circle. 21 sc around 3rd largest circle. 12 sc around the smallest circle. Crochet 24 sc around trunk. Fasten off and weave in all the ends.
Begin crochet lace between the circles as follows. Attach lacey yarn in sc on the largest circle.
From Large circle to 2nd large circle. Ch 5, sk 2 sc, sl st in next sc. Continue all around. Ch 3, sl st in 5-ch sp. Continue all around. Continue with ch 3, sl st in 3-ch sp all around. After 4 rounds continue as follows: ch 3 and attach in sc in next circle (2nd largest circles), ch 3, sk 1 3-ch sp and 2 sc on circle, insert hook through next 3-ch sp and in next sc on the circle, continue all around until last two 3-ch sp. Continue as follows: ch 3, sk 2 sc on circle, insert hook through next 3-ch sp(do not skip a 3-ch sp) and in next sc on circle. Sl st in last sc. See image below.
As you can see from the next image, you are working on the inside of the hat.
From 2nd Larges circle to 3rd largest circle: Ch 3, sk 1 sc on circle, sl st in next sc. Continue all the way around. Ch 3, sl st in next 3-ch sp. Continue all the way around. Skip a 3-ch sp evenly around and sl st in the next 3-ch sp to make the netting tighter. After round 4 make sure you have only 6 x 3-ch sp. Attach to next circle (3rd largest circle) as follows: ch 3, sk 2 sc, insert through next 3-ch sp and next sc on circle. Continue all the way around, sl st in last sc.
From 3rd largest circle to Smallest circle: Ch 3, sk 2 sc on circle, sc in next sc. Continue all the around. Continue crochet ch 3, sl st in 3-ch sp. Skip 3-ch sp until you have 4 x 3-ch sp. Continue 3 rounds. Attach to smallest circle with sl st, ch 2, sk 1 sc, insert into 3-ch sp and next sc. Sl st in last sc. Due to the tight hole you might have to fasten off and reattach yarn in 3-ch sp (or it is hard to get the yarn through). It will also be easier to reattach in sc on smallest circle and ch 2 and attach through sc and 3-ch sp. Continue all around. Fasten off.
Crochet Fairy Hat Decoration
I decided to decorate this hat with some craft butterflies that I had and then put it on a crochet polar bear I made ages ago. 🙂 Get the polar bear pattern here.
Have fun with this project and make it your own using your own colours and decorations ideas. 🙂
